Production Engineer

Description of Duties

This is a staff engineering position in the Monroe County Water Authority responsible for the operation, construction and maintenance of water treatment, pumping and storage facilities.  Duties include design, material specification, equipment analysis, budgeting, and environmental compliance functions relating to public water supply.  Duties also include regular inspection of areas within the treatment plant and offsite locations including booster pumping stations, tanks and reservoirs, and involves physical activity such as entering confined or restricted spaces, working in tight quarters around machinery, and ascending heights.  The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of a senior level technical or administrative staff member, with considerable leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment. General supervision is exercised over laboratory personnel. 

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class at the Monroe County Water Authority and must have served continuously on a permanent basis for twelve (12) months holding the position of Project Engineer-Water Distribution or Junior Project Engineer-Water Distribution immediately preceding the date of the written test.

A combination of time served in multiple titles sufficient to meet the maximum period of required service is also qualifying.

Any person, otherwise meeting the requirements for an examination, who was laid off from an agency for which the examination is being held, and whose name is presently on a preferred list is eligible to compete in the examination. When completing the application, such person should be sure to indicate his/her present employment and/or the title and location of his/her last permanent employment in the municipality.
