Description of Duties

This is a professional engineering position responsible for supervising the operations of the Engineering and Facilities Management (Engineering, Code Enforcement, Maintenance and Construction, Geographic Information Systems [GIS] and Building Operations) section of the Department of Environmental Services. Responsibilities involve administering the professional services selection process, compliance monitoring, developing the Capital Improvement program, and preparing and presenting legislative referrals. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Director of Environmental Services or other higher-level staff member. General supervision is exercised over a professional staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus EITHER:

(A)  Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering plus seven (7) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent** professional* experience in civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical, transportation or sanitary engineering some of which must have included project planning and design development and review and three (3) years of which must have included  formal supervision of staff or project supervision; OR,

(B)   Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master's degree in Engineering, plus five (5) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent** professional* experience defined in (A) above, three (3) years of which must have included formal supervision of staff or project supervision; OR,

(C)    An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.

*Professional experience does not include maintenance, clerical, secretarial or similar activities.

Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid New York State Professional Engineer’s license. 
 
Where, in order to meet the Professional Engineering’s license requirement, an individual is appointed by using the process of reciprocity, the probationary period is not considered complete until the employee has received the Professional Engineer’s license issued by the State of New York.  The license must be obtained during the 12-month probationary period.
