Senior Maintenance Technician/Operator

Description of Duties
This is a senior level position located at the Department of Environmental Services responsible for assisting the Assistant Sewer Collection Supervisor in establishing operational performance standards with the operation and maintenance of sewer collection equipment and systems. Duties involve crew deployment and supervision in the operation, inspection, preventative maintenance, and repair of the laterals and pipes of a sewage collection system including working outdoors in all types of weather conditions and during emergency situations. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Assistant Sewer Collection Supervisor or other higher-level staff member with leeway allowed to exercise independent judgment in planning work details. Lead supervision is exercised over operations and maintenance crews.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus EITHER:
(A) Four (4) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent** experience in all of the following: installing, operating, maintaining and repairing sewer systems, one (1) year of which must have involved the operation of heavy equipment, and one (1) year of which must have been in a lead role capacity*; OR,
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree plus two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent** experience as defined in (A) above, one (1) year of which must have involved the operation of heavy equipment, and one (1) year of which must have been in a lead role capacity*; OR,
(C) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s degree plus one (1) year of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent** experience as defined in (A) above which must have involved the operation of heavy equipment, and must have been in a lead role capacity*; OR;
(D) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B) and (C) above.
*Lead role capacity is defined as someone who participates and leads and/or trains work crews, oversees projects, and/or directions and coordinates the work of others.
