Description of Duties

This is a responsible recreation position in which the incumbent plans, organizes, and conducts athletic and/or leisure
time activities for one or more specific segments of a total recreation program. The employee under the direction of the
Recreation Supervisor assists in program development and implementation, however the focus of the Recreation Leader
position is in program instruction. Direct supervision is received from the Recreation Supervisor. The employee may
supervise Recreation Assistants or Recreation Attendants.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements on or before the date of the written exam:


Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma plus, EITHER:
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree in Recreation or a closely related field (Physical Education, Music, Studio Arts, Drama, Education or similar disciplines will be considered as closely related fields); OR,

(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree, plus one (1) year of paid full time or its part-time equivalent* experience in recreation or related activities; (Employment as a Program Director of Physical Education, music, studio art, etc., will be considered a related activity); OR,

(C) Two (2) years of paid full time or its part-time* or equivalent experience in recreation or related activities; OR,

(D) Any equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B) or (C) above.

NOTE: A Bachelor's degree in fields other than those listed in (A) will not be considered as acceptable substitutes for the required one (1) year of work experience.

Special Requirements:
Completion of a recognized first aid course upon entry into the position.
