Description of Duties

This is an engineering position in the Monroe County Water Authority, responsible for directing the preparation of plans and specifications for engineering projects.  The position regularly requires field work at construction job sites.  The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of a senior level engineering staff member, with wide latitude allowed for the development and modification of design plans and specifications, the exercise of independent judgment, and the application of professional engineering standards.  General supervision is exercised over a professional engineering and support staff. 

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements on or before the date of the written exam: 

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, PLUS EITHER:

(A)   Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Sanitary or Construction Engineering/Technology, plus four (4) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* experience in civil engineering work involving one or more of the following:  drafting, surveying, construction inspection, project design, and public works construction, two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR,

(B)   Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree in Civil, Sanitary or Construction Engineering/Technology, plus six (6) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* experience as defined in (A), two (2) of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR,

(C)   Eight (8) years of full-time or its part-time equivalent* experience as described in (A) above; OR,

(D)   Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B) and (C) above.

NOTE:  A Master's degree in Civil, Sanitary or Construction Engineering may substitute for one (1) year of experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

1.     Possession of, at time of appointment, a New York State Professional Engineer's license or possession of a Professional Engineer's license issued by a state having reciprocity with New York Professional Engineering licensure standards and which license was obtained by written examination.

Where, in order to meet the Professional Engineer's license requirement, an individual is appointed by using the process of reciprocity, the probationary period is not considered complete until the employee has received the Professional Engineer's license issued by the State of New York.  The license must be obtained within twelve (12) months of appointment.

2.         Possession of a valid New York State Class D driver’s license at the time of appointment.
