Description of Duties

This is a professional position, located in the Department of Public Safety, responsible for analyzing and supporting the development of emergency plans for Monroe County programs related to emergency and disaster preparedness, response, recovery, security and hazard mitigation.  Duties involve working with partner agencies for coordination, support, and response to disasters and ensures protocols are in place.   Duties also involve preparing and delivering preparedness presentations for internal and external audiences, and promoting emergency preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation, and operational readiness.  The employee responds during a State of Emergency and other emergencies in the field or to the Monroe County Emergency Operations Center and is one-hundred percent dedicated to the response.  The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Deputy Director of Public Safety or other higher level administrator with wide leeway allowed for decision making and independent judgement.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements on or before the date of the written exam: 

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Emergency Management, Communications, Political Science or a closely related field plus five (5) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* experience in community engagement or emergency management program planning both of which must have been in a government agency or military establishment.
