Communications Aide

Description of Duties
This is an entry level position in the field of communications responsible for assisting with and performing a variety of tasks involved in promoting the good will of the organization or department. Work involves substantial public contact. The employee reports directly to and works under general supervision from a department head or other senior staff member. Supervision is not a responsibility of this class.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements on or before the date of the written exam:
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma PLUS either:
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree plus six (6) months paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* experience in public relations or public information, journalism, media presentation, program development or the preparation of written material for public dissemination; OR,
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s degree plus two (2) years of work experience listed in (A) above; OR,
(C) Four (4) years of work experience listed in (A) above; OR,
(D) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B) and (C) above.
Special Requirements:
If you are appointed you will be required to have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate your capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test for employment with Monroe County Government.
