Description of Duties

This is a senior level technical position in the Department of Environmental Services responsible for managing the design, construction and operation of critical utilities (e.g.; fiber, security, fire & smoke, voice/video/data telecommunications, instrumentation, electrical and process utilities.)  This position is responsible for overseeing all of the tasks involved in the life cycle of construction projects including: system design, equipment layout, project planning, parts requisitioning, managing subcontractors, installation, inspection, code compliance, cost justification and asset tracking.  This position differs from the lower level, Utility System Technician - Wastewater by virtue of its expanded scope and responsibility for managing operations.  The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of a higher-level staff member.  General supervision is exercised over a subordinate staff.  Does related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus, EITHER;

(A)  Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Technology, Electrical Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronic Technology, Engineering Technology, or Construction Technology plus four (4) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in utility systems construction, instrumentation or electrical equipment**; OR,

(B)  Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s degree in Civil Technology, Electrical Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronic Technology, Engineering Technology, or Construction Technology, plus six (6) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as described in (A) above; OR,

(C)  Eight (8) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as described in (A) above; OR,

(D)   An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C) above.

**For the purpose of these minimum qualifications, utility systems construction, instrumentation or electrical equipment relates to sewer, water, power, lighting and telecommunications.
