Tree Supervisor

Description of Duties
This is a professional level position responsible for supervising and participating in the planning, care, and upkeep of trees. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Superintendent of Horticulture, Commissioner of Public Works or other higher-level staff member. General supervision is exercised over subordinate staff such as tree trimmers, equipment operators, and laborers. Employees are expected to be available to report to emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
(A) Four (4) years paid full‑time or its part‑time equivalent* experience in tree maintenance activities; OR,
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree in a forestry, horticulture, or landscaping field plus two (2) years paid full‑time or its part‑time equivalent* experience in tree maintenance activities; OR,
(C) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined in (A) and (B) above.
Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid New York State Class *B* Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required at the time of appointment.
Possession of a valid New York State Pesticide Applicators Permit is required by the completion of the probationary period.
