Description of Duties

This position is a direct service, professional‑level position responsible for assisting in developing, promoting and monitoring a post-secondary service plan for students with disabilities.  The work involves assisting students and their families to identify and obtain available and appropriate services when students are transitioning from school to disability specific adult services, as well as educating them regarding post-secondary options and services.  The position is designed to create a support and advocacy system as they navigate through multiple transitions.  The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of a senior-level staff person.  The employee must be available to work evenings.

Minimum Qualifications

 
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
 
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s degree plus four (4) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent** experience in counseling, special education, or other occupation that involved working with individuals with special needs,* OR,
 
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s degree plus two (2) years experience as described in (A) above; OR,
 
(C) Any equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
 
*Individuals with special needs is defined as individuals with a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more major life activities. Life activities include functions such as caring for oneself, performing manual tasks, walking, sitting, standing, lifting, reaching, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning and working.
