Description of Duties

This position, located in the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office’s correctional system, is responsible for providing clinical treatment to inmates who abuse drugs and/or alcohol or are afflicted with addiction.  Duties include overseeing a designated caseload of alcohol and/or drug abusers and initial intake, development of comprehensive treatment plans, and follow-up services.  The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Director of Inmate Drug and Alcohol Treatment Programs or other higher level staff member.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus EITHER:
 
(A)  Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Criminal Justice, Human Relations, Family Studies, Human Development, Social and Cultural Diversity, Nursing, Mental Health or a closely related field or in a psychology, sociology, counseling or education field, plus one (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent** experience providing direct client therapeutic counseling services involving individual and/or group therapy with clients with chemical dependency issues; OR,
 
(B)  Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s degree or successful completion of one-hundred and twenty (120) semester credits in one of the fields mentioned in (A) above, plus two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent** experience providing direct client therapeutic counseling services involving individual and/or group therapy with clients with chemical dependency issues; OR,
 
(C)  Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s degree or successful completion of sixty (60) semester credits in one of the fields mentioned in (A) above, plus four (4) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent** experience providing direct client therapeutic counseling services involving individual and/or group therapy with clients with chemical dependency issues; OR,
 
(D)  An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B) and (C) above.
 
(E)  An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits set forth in (A), and (B) above.
 
Special Requirements:
Must be a New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) Credentialed Alcohol or Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC)*.
