Senior Water Resource Recovery Operator

Description of Duties
This is a technical position responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities. Operations include screening and grit removal, primary settling, sludge thickening, biological secondary treatment using the activated sludge process, disinfection, and chemical precipitation for wastewater flows greater than ten (10) million gallons per day. This position differs from Assistant Chief Water Resource Recovery Operator by virtue of assisting with the oversight of technical operation and daily inspections as opposed to having full supervisory responsibility and accountability. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of an Assistant Chief Water Resource Recovery Operator or other higher-level staff member. General supervision is exercised over subordinate staff such as Water Resource Recovery Operators, Water Resource Recovery Operator Trainees, Water Resource Recovery Assistants and laborers.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a Grade III-A or higher (Grade IV-A) Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s Certification* issued under the provisions of the Environmental Conservation Law plus one (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent** experience in a supervisory or lead supervisory capacity in the operation and maintenance of a water pollution control facility or a wastewater treatment plant.
