Description of Duties

This is an important senior technical position in the technical support section of data processing involving the maintenance of computer software programs and development of additional control programs as required.  Employees work with operations, programmers, analysts, and users in solving problems of a technical nature.  The senior systems programmer maintains installation sample system test set and tests new software using the system test set, before putting new or modified software into production. The work is performed under the general supervision of Associate Systems Programmer.  Supervision is exercised over Systems Programmers.

Minimum Qualifications

EITHER:

(A)  Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, plus four (4) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* experience in computer operators activities two (2) years of which shall have been in programming, or, in operating systems software development; OR,

 (B)  Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college with an Associate's degree in Computer Science or related field, plus two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* experience in programming or in operating systems software development; OR,

 (C) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree plus three (3) years of paid-full time or its part-time equivalent* experience in computer operations activities, two (2) years of which shall have been in programming or in operating systems software development, OR;

 (D)   An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C) above.
