Description of Duties

This is a managerial technical position located in the Department of Public Health, Medical Examiner’s Office responsible for directing the operations of the American Board of Forensic Toxicology (ABFT) accredited regional forensic toxicology laboratory. Duties include representing the laboratory on various New York State and Monroe County committees and advisory groups and serves as a resource for the local law enforcement and criminal justice communities regarding toxicology related issues. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Medical Examiner or other higher level staff member. 

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus EITHER:
 
(A)        Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master’s degree in Chemistry, Pharmacology, Toxicology or a closely related field, plus two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* laboratory experience in forensic toxicology which must have included ALL of the following: headspace gas chromatography, gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), liquid chromatoghrapy/mass spectrometry (LC/MS), and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS; OR,
 
(B)        Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Pharmacology, or Toxicology; OR,
 
(C)        An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
