Description of Duties

This position in an Information Services Department or section is the mid-level position in the Programmer Analyst hierarchy.  This is a customer service position responsible for gathering, analyzing and programming information pertaining to the development and/or modification of customer computer application systems.  Data gathering involves investigative research conducted at user departments.  This classification differs from the lower Programmer Analyst III, in that work performed is more hands-on, involves more data gathering and programming activities.  The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of, the Project Coordinator.  General supervision may be exercised over project teams. Does related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:

  1.        Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree in an Information Technology field, plus two (2) years paid full time or its part time equivalent experience (co-op is acceptable) as a computer programmer, systems analyst, or computer operator; OR,
  2.        Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in an Information Technology field; OR,
  3.        Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree, plus one (1) year of paid full time or its part time equivalent experience as defined in (A) above OR,
  4.        An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B) and (C) above.
