Senior Youth Detention Caseworker, prov.

Description of Duties

This is a position at the Monroe County Department of Human Services located at a specialized secure detention (SSD) facility for pre-trial and post-sentencing detention of youth who are alleged or sentenced ‘adolescent offenders”.  The facility is part of the Monroe County Children’s Detention Center.  Duties involve performing intensive case management activities for youth.  Duties also involve assisting with admission intakes and discharge planning, coordinating out-of-county admissions and discharges, providing baseline assessments for youth and families to promote family engagement. Duties are performed within well-defined laws and guidelines and under stressful conditions and can include physically de-escalating volatile situations.  The facility operates on a 24/7 basis.  This position differs from the lower level Youth Detention Caseworker by virtue of providing oversight to staff in the absence of the supervisor including during entire shifts, and assisting the supervisor with activities such as closing records upon discharge of youth.  The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Social Work Supervisor – Children’s Center or other higher-level staff member.  Does related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s degree plus three (3) years paid full‑time or its part‑time equivalent experience working with youth within a counseling or treatment based setting, or equivalent qualifications as approved through the New York State Office for Children and Family Services (OCFS) waiver.  

NOTE:  The minimum qualifications are mandated by the Codes, Rules and Regulations of the State of New York Title 9 Section 180-3.11(d)(ii).
