Description of Duties

This professional position is responsible for providing and directing clinical supervision of primary health care services to pediatric clients. Duties include coordinating and providing the diagnosis of illnesses, including acute and chronic illnesses, direct trauma sensitive care, recommendation of therapeutic and corrective measures which includes the prescription of drugs, devices and immunizing agents, and clinical supervision.  Duties also involve providing pediatric care to children in foster care, assessment and management of children with special health care needs and challenging behaviors, providing related educating to parents and foster care parents, coordinating billing practices to optimize revenue, and assisting with the coordination of care with community resources.  The employee must be certified to practice in the specialty area or areas related to the work performed and the work performed must be in accordance with written practice agreements and protocols.  The work is performed independently under the appropriate license in collaboration with a licensed physician qualified in the specialty area.  The employee retains responsibility for the professional tasks performed within his/her scope of practice.  The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of an administrator or physician.  General supervision is exercised over Nurse Practitioners.  Does related work as required. 

Minimum Qualifications

New York State certification to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the specialty area(s) related to the work performed** plus two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as a Nurse Practitioner working in a primary care setting providing care to children.

**Part 64 of the New York State Commissioner of Education Regulations defines the profession of Nurse Practitioners and includes the following specialty areas:  Acute Care, Adult Health, College Health, Community Health, Family Health, Gerontology, Holistic Care, Neonatology, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Oncology, Pediatrics, Palliative Care, Perinatology, Psychiatry, School Health and Women’s Health.

For the purposes of these minimum qualifications, the specialty areas of Family Health or Pediatrics is required.
