Assistant Sewer Collection Supervisor

Description of Duties
This position in the Department of Environmental Services involves the operation and maintenance of sewer collection systems. Supervising responsibilities include the operation, inspection, preventative maintenance, and repair of the laterals and pipes of a sewage collection system. Employees may be required to work in all kinds of weather conditions and may be called for emergency situations twenty four (24) hours a day & seven (7) days a week. The employee reports directly to and works under general supervision of the Sewer Collection Supervisor or Sewer Maintenance & Construction Coordinator with leeway allowed to exercise independent judgment in planning work details. General supervision is exercised over operations and maintenance crews.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
(A) Five (5) years of paid full‑time or its part‑time equivalent*** experience performing or providing administrative support for all of the following: installing, operating, maintaining and repairing sewer systems, two (2) of which must have been in a supervisory* or lead role capacity**; OR,
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree in Construction Technology, Environmental Science, Civil Technology, Sanitary Engineering or a field related to these disciplines plus, three (3) years of experience as described in (A) above; two (2) of which must have been in a supervisory* capacity; OR,
(C) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in one of the disciplines listed in (B) above plus one (1) year of experience as described in (A) above; OR,
(D) Any equivalent combination of education and experience as described by the limits of (A), (B) and (C) above
*Supervisory capacity is defined as someone having responsibility, direction and control of subordinate employees including assigning work, training, performance evaluation and discipline
**Lead role capacity is defined as someone who participates and leads and/or trains work crews, oversees projects, and/or directs and coordinates the work of others.
