Principal Station Mechanic - Mechanical

Description of Duties
This is a highly technical position in the Department of Environmental Services responsible for the design, installation, troubleshooting, repair, modification, and upgrade of process equipment in a wastewater treatment plant and wastewater collection systems as well as the proper maintenance and upkeep of building and facilities mechanical equipment. Duties include the application engineering and design of smaller equipment and systems procured and installed by internal staff and contractors. This position differs from the lower level Senior Station Mechanic-Mechanical by virtue of managing five (5) year plan projects and mechanical contractor work, and supporting capital improvement projects from design through construction. Work is performed in accordance with department and industrial standards. The employee must respond to emergencies, work under a variety of schedules and conditions including all types of weather and various heights and spaces (such as cramped spaces), and move items weighing up to approximately eighty (80) pounds. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Mechanical Maintenance or other higher-level staff member with wide latitude allowed for independent judgment. General supervision is exercised over Senior Station Mechanics-Mechanical and other a subordinate staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class at a Monroe County Department of Environmental Services and must have served continuously on a permanent basis for twenty-four (24) months holding the position of Senior Station Mechanic – Mechanical or Preventive Maintenance Coordinator immediately preceding the date of the written test.
