Description of Duties

This is a highly technical position located in the Department of Environmental Services responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of electrical and instrumentation equipment and systems in a wastewater treatment plant and wastewater collection systems as well as the proper maintenance and upkeep of buildings and facilities electrical and instrumentation equipment. Duties include working with a broad range of equipment and technologies including low-medium-high voltage switch-gear, generators, motors, solid state motor controls, adjustable frequency drives (AFD), programmable logic controllers (PLC), remote terminal units (RTU), process measurement instruments, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, radio frequency, and fiber optic based telecommunication systems.  This position differs from the lower level Senior Station Mechanic-Electrical and Senior Station Mechanic-Instrumentation by virtue of being responsible for managing five (5) year plan projects and electrical/instrumentation contractor work, and supporting capital improvement projects from design through construction.  Work is performed in accordance with department and industrial standards. The employee responds to emergencies and works under a variety of schedules and conditions including in all types of weather and various heights and spaces (including cramped spaces), and moves items weighing up to approximately eighty (80) pounds. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Electrical Operations or other higher-level staff member with wide latitude allowed for independent judgement.  General supervision is exercised over a subordinate staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class at the Monroe County Department of Environmental Services and must have served continuously on a permanent basis for twenty-four (24) months holding the position of Senior Station Mechanic – Electrical or Senior Station Mechanic – Instrumentation immediately preceding the date of the written test.
