Description of Duties
This is an important supervisory law enforcement position in a Police Department of a town or village involving responsibility for either precinct command or watch command or special assignments. Work is performed in accordance with New York State law, local ordinances, and the administrative policies and procedures of the Department. Direct supervision is exercised over Sergeants, Police Officers, civilian personnel and may be exercised over a Lieutenant.
Minimum Qualifications
Towns of Gates, Greece, Irondequoit, Webster:
Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class at the above agencies and must have served continuously on a permanent basis for twenty-four (24) months holding the position of Police Sergeant immediately preceding the date of the written test.
Town of Brighton and the Village of Brockport:
Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class at the above agencies and must have served continuously on a permanent basis for twelve (12) months holding the position of Police Sergeant immediately preceding the date of the written test.
A combination of time served in multiple titles sufficient to meet the maximum period of required service is also qualifying.
