Description of Duties

This is a custodial position responsible for the direction of the supervision, counseling and corrective direction of adolescent youth (ages ten [10] ‑ eighteen [18]) who reside in the Monroe County Children’s Center (a Specialized/Secure Detention Facility) usually by court order. Duties include court ordered transporting of youth as well as participation in the orientation and training of Youth Detention Workers who work a variety of shifts and schedules.  This position differs from Youth Detention Worker by virtue of its higher level of responsibility regarding the supervision and scheduling of staff and assistance to medical staff.  The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of a Supervising Youth Detention Worker or other higher-level staff member.  Lead supervision is exercised over Youth Detention Workers.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:

  1. Four (4) years paid full‑time or its part‑time equivalent* experience involving the custodial care, counseling, or instruction of youth in a facility, institution, or agency devoted to the care, education, rehabilitation or detention of youth (aged ten [10] through twenty-one [21]); OR,

  1. Four (4) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* experience responsible for the protection of people or property in a position such as Police Officer, Security Specialist or Military Police; OR,

  1. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree plus two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* experience as described in (A) or (B) above; OR,

  1. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's or a Master's degree, plus one (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* experience as described in (A) or (B) above; OR,

       E. An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), (C), and (D) above.
