Description of Duties

This is a training position in the field of information technology and is located at the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. This position is designed to develop abilities required to independently perform a variety of information technology related activities including, but not limited to, analysis of business requirements, troubleshooting, product selection, user training, coordination of equipment installation, and assisting with vendor selection. Upon successful completion of the one (1) year training period employees are promoted to Systems Support Specialist without further examination. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of, the Commander or other higher-level staff member.

Minimum Qualifications

             Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:

(A)       Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science or a computer science or information technology field plus one (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in ALL of the following in a police setting: analyzing, troubleshooting and resolving software issues either independently or consulting with information technology staff, analyzing source documents to determine the utilization of appropriate software AND  training personnel on software standards; OR,

(B)       Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science or a computer science or information technology field plus three (3) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as defined in (A) above; OR,

(C)       An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
