Description of Duties

This is an administrative level position involving direction, planning, budgeting, and supervision of pupil transportation services for eligible students, including the handicapped, residing within the school district. Employees of this class direct operations activities of routing, scheduling and busing, and direct the bus maintenance and inspection program for the district owned fleet. The Director also oversees the bus operator driver safety training program and the maintenance of records necessary for obtaining State Aide. This position differs from that of Director of Transportation II primarily by the size of the operation, the number of students transported, and the administrative supervision exercised. In addition, the Director of Transportation I is heavily involved with negotiating service contracts, negotiating employee contracts, and suspending transportation privileges. Work is performed under general supervision from an administrator with wide latitude allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in providing safe, adequate and cost effective transportation. Direct supervision is exercised over supervisory level operations and maintenance staff.
 

Minimum Qualifications

Greece Central School
Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class at the Greece Central School and must have served continuously on a permanent basis for twelve (12) months holding the position of Bus Operations Supervisor immediately preceding the date of the written test.
 
Rochester City School District
Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class at the Rochester City School District and must have served continuously on a permanent basis for twelve (12) months holding the position of holding the position of Assistant Transportation Director immediately preceding the date of the written test.
 
Any person, otherwise meeting the requirements for an examination, who was laid off from an agency for which the examination is being held, and whose name is presently on a preferred list is eligible to compete in the examination. When completing the application, such person should be sure to indicate his/her present employment and/or the title and location of his/her last permanent employment in the municipality.
