Description of Duties

This is a secretarial position, located at the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, responsible for performing confidential secretarial tasks for the Undersheriff. The employee exercises considerable independent judgment in solving office
management problems, acts on behalf of the administrator in accomplishing routine administrative business and types confidential reports. The work is performed in accordance with the objectives, policies and procedures as set forth by the Sheriff’s Office. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Undersheriff with considerable freedom permitted in responding to or referring inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class in the Monroe County Office of the Sheriff and must have served continuously on a permanent basis for twenty-four (24) months holding the position of Sheriff’s Records Clerk, Office Clerk II, Property Clerk, Inmate Property Clerk, Legal Secretary II, or Senior Office Account Clerk immediately preceding the date of the written test AND must meet the following minimum qualifications:
 
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus either:
 
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science, Secretarial Science, Office Technology (Administration) or a closely related degree plus one (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* experience in office clerical or secretarial work in a law enforcement or public safety environment; OR,
 
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science, Secretarial Science, Office Technology (Administration) or a closely related field plus three (3) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* experience as defined in (A) above; OR,
 
(C) Five (5) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalence* experience as defined in (A) above; OR,
 
(D) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C) above.
 
A combination of time served in multiple titles sufficient to meet the maximum period of required service is also qualifying.
