Description of Duties

This is an administrative position responsible for the supervision of the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities. Operations include screening and grit removal, primary settling, sludge thickening, biological secondary treatment using the activated sludge process and chemical precipitation for wastewater flows greater than ten (10) million gallons per day. This position differs from Senior Water Resource Recovery Operator by virtue of having a higher level of accountability, being responsible for the operations of the facilities in the absence of the Chief Water Resource Recovery Operator, and developing policies and programs. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Chief Water Resource Recovery Operator or other higher-level staff member. General supervision is exercised over Senior Water Resource Recovery Operators.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a Grade IV-A Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s Certification* issued under the provisions of the Environmental Conservation Law plus two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent** experience in a supervisory or lead supervisory capacity in the operation and maintenance of a water pollution control facility or a wastewater treatment plant.
