Description of Duties
This position in the Parks Department is responsible for the operation, maintenance and monitoring of the Zoo's water exhibits. Work involves conducting water tests and analysis, preventive maintenance, and reading plans and blueprints. The employee must be on call for emergencies and may work shifts. The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of the Life Support Supervisor. General supervision is exercised over Zoo Attendants. Does related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
(A) Four (4) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in wastewater treatment, mechanical maintenance** or laboratory work; OR,
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree in Biology or other natural science plus two (2) years of experience as defined in (A); OR,
(C) Any equivalent combination of education and experience as described by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
**Mechanical maintenance experience includes, but is not limited to, automotive, hydraulics, pneumatics, HVAC, power transmission and millwright.
NOTE: Where education is lacking, additional experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis.
PREFERRED ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
If you are appointed, you will be required to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate your capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.
