Sewer Collection Manager

Description of Duties
This is a managerial position in the Department of Environmental Services responsible for the efficient and economical conduct of the sewer collection system, which includes sewer collection system design, conveyance, operation of pump stations, tunnels, control structures, interceptors, laterals, force mains and catch basins. Duties include coordinating the roles and activities of the collection system staff with those at the receiving wastewater treatment plants. This position is distinguished from Sewer Collection Supervisor by virtue of conducting more research and analysis of current collection systems, having less direct supervision of staff, and assisting the Chief of Collection and Maintenance Operations with management duties, engineering problems and solutions. The employee reports directly to, works under the general supervision of the Chief of Collection and Maintenance Operations or other higher-level staff member with wide leeway allowed for independent judgment. General supervision is exercised over a staff of technical, operations and maintenance team coordinators, team leaders, and clerical personnel.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class in the Monroe County Department of Environmental Services and must have served continuously on a permanent basis for twelve (12) months holding the position of Sewer Collection Supervisor or Engineer – Pure Waters immediately preceding the date of the written test.
A combination of time served in multiple titles sufficient to meet the maximum period of required service is also qualifying.
