Description of Duties

This is a staff engineering position in the Monroe County Water Authority responsible for the operation, construction and maintenance of water treatment, pumping and storage facilities. Duties include design, material specification, equipment analysis, budgeting, and environmental compliance functions relating to public water supply. Duties also include regular inspection of areas within the treatment plant and offsite locations including booster pumping stations, tanks and reservoirs, and involves physical activity such as entering confined or restricted spaces, working in tight quarters around machinery, and ascending heights. The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of a senior level technical or administrative staff member, with considerable leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment. General supervision is exercised over laboratory personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:

(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree plus four (4) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent** engineering experience including one or more of the following: design, review, inspection, construction, or operations of public water supply facilities; OR,

(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree plus six (6) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent** experience as defined in (A) above; OR,

(C) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.

Special Requirements:
Possession of a Grade IA Water Treatment Operator's Certificate issued by the New York State Health Department at the time of appointment.

Possession of a New York State Professional Engineer's license or a Professional Engineer's license issued by a state having reciprocity* with New York Professional Engineering licensure standard, and which license was obtained by written examination, at the time of appointment.

*Where an individual is appointed by using the process of reciprocity, in order to meet the Professional Engineer’s license requirement the probationary period is not considered complete until the employee has received the license issued by the State of New York. The license must be obtained during the probationary period in order to remain employed in the position.
