Description of Duties

This is a technical position responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of public safety electronic and radio equipment. Duties are performed in accordance with laws and regulations prescribed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The employee operates vehicles that require a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no Air Brake restriction. Driver training, if necessary, and a vehicle will be supplied by the employer. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Public Safety Communications Administrator, the Senior Public Safety Radio Technician, or other higher level staff member.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus one (1) year of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* experience in the maintenance and repair of two-way radio equipment.

NOTE: College level training cannot be used as a substitute for work experience.

Special Requirements:
Employees will be required to obtain a Class *B* Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no Air Brake restriction during the probationary period, with the employing agency providing sufficient training, road time, and vehicle to obtain the license. Employees who do not successfully obtain a Class *B* CDL with no Air Brake restriction during the probationary period will be removed from the position (L2 on driver’s license designates there is an Air Brake restriction).
