Description of Duties

This position in the Department of Public Health is responsible for leading and participating in public health field investigations, personal interviews and reviewing available records to secure or verify factual information for research and control purposes in various program areas including, but not limited to, sexually transmitted diseases. In support of public health programs, the employee speaks before interested groups to inform them of these programs. Investigations involve frequent personal contacts with patients, patients' families, persons who may have been exposed to infection, students and other interested groups and the establishment of working relationships with community and professional personnel. This position differs from Assistant Public Health Representative in that investigations conducted may be more specialized and/or may be responsible for project supervision, requires interpretation and evaluation of laboratory test results and consulting with community provider and lead or supervisory responsibilities. The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of a higher level staff member. General supervision may be exercised over subordinate staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class in the Monroe County Department of Public Health and must have served continuously on a permanent basis for twelve (12) months holding the position of Assistant Public Health Representative immediately preceding the date of the written test.
