Description of Duties
This is an entry level professional public health nursing position. Duties include assessment of health needs, development of care plans, complex case management, and direct nursing care to specific populations within the community. A Public Health Nurse is also responsible for periodic re-evaluation of individual and family nursing needs. This position is distinguished from the Assistant Supervising Public Health Nurse position by its responsibility for the initial implementation of nursing care plans and provision of direct nursing care. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of, a Supervising Public Health Nurse or other higher level staff member. Direct supervision is exercised over the work of Registered Professional Nurses and staff assigned to carry out the plans of care. Does related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a New York State Registered Professional Nurse's license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENT:
Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certificate or equivalent certifications by a recognized certifying agency acceptable to the New York State Department of Health.
