Description of Duties

This position, located in the Department of Environmental Services, is responsible for developing and implementing public
environmental education programs for solid waste, recycling, and water quality topics, and implementing Monroe County’s
Solid Waste Management Plan. Duties include, but are not limited to, completing annual and bi-annual solid waste
compliance reports, and conducting public outreach relating to recycling including attending public events. Must be able to
move/lift up to and including approximately fifty (50) pounds when transporting materials and equipment to education sites.
This position reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of an Associate Engineer - Solid Waste or other
higher level staff member. General supervision is exercised over an Environmental Educator.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus EITHER:
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master’s degree in
one of the Natural Sciences (Physical and Biological including Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics,
Zoology and their subfields), an engineering degree, or Urban Planning, Planning, Landscape Architecture and
Planning or a closely related field plus two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* experience in solid
waste, water or waste management, environmental conservation, natural resource management, planning, regional
planning, materials recycling, or environmental program education and outreach; OR,
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in
one of the fields mentioned in (A) above plus four (4) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* experience as
defined in (A) above; OR,
(C) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
